The 7 Most Important Foods To Eat This Summer

When you think of summer, you probably picture a clear blue sky, warm weather and fun in the sun. Lazy days by the pool, fun activities outdoors, and of course, a good barbeque.

Burgers, hot dogs, ribs, macaroni salad… all of these are staples of the American summer experience. And by all means, enjoy them every now and then! But remember, summer is the hottest, driest time of the year. A time when you’re exposed to the sun and literally feeling the burn.

This puts you at risk for dehydration and vitamin deficiencies. So it’s important to understand this and make a few key additions to your diet in the summer. The good news is, these foods are easy to find, simple to prepare and taste delicious! This is the easiest chore you’ll tackle all year.

Add The Following Foods To Your Summer Diet

You know sunscreen is important, but did you know tomatoes can also shield you against the sun’s harmful rays? Tomatoes (and other red fruits & veggies) contain lycopene, which may help protect your skin cells from sun damage and prevent sunburn.

Looking for hydration? It’s probably a good sign that this food has “water” in the name. Watermelon is not only delicious, it’s great for hydration due to its high water content (they’re about 90% water). Snacking on a watermelon is a great substitute for other, less healthy summertime options, like salty chips or cookies. Plus, as a red fruit, it’s got the aforementioned lycopene in it, so you get an extra layer of protection from the sun!

Cantaloupe & Honeydew

While two different foods, cantaloupe and honeydew are usually grouped together in a fruit salad, so why not include them both here? Both of these melons are heavy in water content, packed with nutrients, and full of flavor which makes them popular for both kids and adults.

Lemon On Everything!

Before you reach for a sugar-filled soda or juice, try a simple, healthy and delicious alternative -- simply squeeze a little lemon into your water! This added flavor gives plain old water a little extra “pep,” which leads you to drink more, promoting hydration. It’s also a great source of vitamin C, which can add even more protection from the sun.

Dark Leafy Greens

Next time you plan on having a salad with your meal, skip the iceberg lettuce and opt for raw kale, spinach, and leafy lettuce. Veggies that are dark green-colored are among the healthiest foods you can eat. They protect from sun damage by decreasing sensitivity to UV light, as well as mend flaky and dry skin, which strengthens the skin’s defenses against damaging rays.

Corn on the Cob

If you can resist the butter and salt, corn on the cob is a high-fiber, low-calorie food that is also delicious! Yellow corn in particular is full of vitamin A, which is great for your skin, as it supports the skin’s immune system and promotes natural moisturising, leaving your skin more hydrated in the warm summer months.

The great thing about all these foods is it’s proof that the best sources of health come straight from the earth. Foods like the ones we discussed above can help heal the body, promote healthy skin, boost metabolism, and much more. All without the need for dangerous medication!

For example, if you find yourself having trouble sleeping, have joint pain, lack of focus (better known as “brain fog”), feel stressed or anxious… and are looking for a natural alternative…
